Atomic-Bombed Streetcar

An original Hiroshima Electric Railway streetcar produced in October 1942. This streetcar sustained considerable damage near Eba in the August 6, 1945 atomic bombing; however, it was restored in February the following year. Thereafter, the streetcar was modified in a number of ways, including retrofitting with lower flooring and redesigning for one-person operation, and continued to run throughout the streets of Hiroshima until June 2006. The interior of the streetcar is opened to the public about once a month.
